One mountain, one day
Mt. Kenya National Park
Mt. Kenya is the second-highest mountain in Africa. Its highest peak, Batian, reaches 5,199 metres, and the mountain and its forests are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The summit takes days, but you don't need days to feel the mountain. On the Day Dash we leave Nairobi early, climb up through the forest into the open moorland with the peaks in view, and make it home the same night. A long, big day — the best way to end the year.

Things worth knowing before you go

Africa's number two
Only Kilimanjaro is higher. Mt. Kenya's three summits are Batian (5,199 m), Nelion (5,188 m) and Point Lenana (4,985 m).

World Heritage
Mt. Kenya National Park and its forests are listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Thin air
Above 3,000 m you'll feel the altitude. Go slowly, drink often and tell the guide if you get a headache.
Pack list
Dress for the mountain
Mt. Kenya can be warm in the sun and freezing in the mist an hour later. Layers are everything.
Bring
- Warm layers — fleece or down jacket
- Waterproof rain jacket
- Sturdy hiking boots
- 2–3 litres of water
- Packed lunch and energy snacks
- Headlamp or torch for the early start
- Gloves and a warm hat
- Sun hat, sunglasses and sunscreen
- National ID or passport for park entry
